Is RolePort free?

Yes. It's open source under the MIT licence and charges nothing. If you use a hosted AI provider, you pay that provider for what you use. See What uses AI, and what it costs.

Does RolePort apply for me?

No. It prepares your CV, letter, answers and emails, and you send them yourself. Most job sites have no way to apply from outside, and you should see what goes out in your name.

Why don't I see LinkedIn jobs?

LinkedIn has no open job feed, so it isn't searched by default. You have three options: add a free JSearch key, run JobSpy on your own computer, or copy a posting's text and paste it.

It may be older than your date range, flagged as stale or reposted, or a duplicate of another listing. A company job also leaves search when the company takes it down. See Why you won't see some jobs. Jobs you've saved or applied to stay in your list.

Why are there so few jobs in my country?

Coverage varies by country. Add a JSearch key, follow companies in your country, and widen the date range. Know a board that publishes its jobs openly? Propose it.

Is my CV sent anywhere?

Only to the AI provider you chose, and only when you use an AI feature. With a local model, it stays on your computer. Without AI, it isn't sent anywhere. See Privacy and your data.

Do I need AI?

No. Search, quick match, the tracker, PDF CVs and reminders work without it. AI adds CV reading, fit evaluations, tailoring, drafts and the Interview Coach.

Which AI should I use?

Claude gives the best quality. Ollama is free and private, if your computer can run a 12B model. See AI providers.

Will the AI make things up on my CV?

It's told not to, and RolePort checks. Employers, titles, dates and education are copied from your profile, and skills or numbers that aren't in your profile or CV are flagged. Read the warnings before you send anything.

Can I change how the AI writes?

Yes. Six prompts can be edited in Settings. See Customizing the prompts.

Can I use RolePort on my phone?

Yes, the site works on phones, and you can install Lite with Add to Home Screen. Lite's data stays on that device, so use a backup to move it. Ollama and JobSpy run on a computer, so use a hosted AI provider on your phone.

Can I move between Lite and self-hosted?

Yes. Download a backup and import it in the other edition, then enter your API keys again.

I cleared my browser. Is my data gone?

In Lite, yes, unless you have a backup. Your data lives only in that browser.
